The National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) has lamented the poor handling of the educational sector by the Federal Government.

They wondered why successive governments would relegate the sector to the background.

National president of the union, Mahmud Abubakar, while speaking with The Guardian accused the government of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerian students, saying its lackadaisical attitude was responsible for the deplorable state of education in the country.

“Many types of research were conducted, many ideas were presented but there are some policies of the government which are unfriendly to the sector and invariably “killing” it.

The president alleged that all the agitations made by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) are long overdue and ought to have been met.

“Since March, all schools had been closed. The government ought to have used the opportunity of the closure to come up with new innovations that would help in uplifting the sector.

The students pleaded with the government to accede to the demands of striking lecturers and properly fund the sector in other to save education from total collapse.
